Thanksgiving 11.26.23

Happy Thanksgiving!!   This is such a special time of the year as we pause to reflect upon the many reasons we have to be grateful to a loving God who is the giver of all good gifts!   I encourage you, however, not just to be grateful but to actually give thanks.    Gratitude is the heart of Thanksgiving and is an emotion.  Giving thanks is the expression of that  gratitude.   If you don’t think you have any reason to give thanks this year, please take a moment and consider:

Should you find yourself stuck in traffic, don’t despair.  There are people in this world for whom driving in an unheard privilege.

Should you have a bad day at work, think of the person who is unemployed and not able to find work.

Should you notice a gray hair in the mirror, think of the cancer patient in chemo who wished they had any hair to examine.

Should you find something on your plate that doesn’t appeal to you, don’t complain, there are people who are hungry and have nothing to eat.

Should you find yourself the victim of other people’s bitterness, ignorance, smallness or insecurities, remember things could be worse – you could be them.

The Bible is very clear that in all things, in every situation, we are to give thanks.   So let’s not just feel gratitude but let’s express thanks this week as we gather around the table and celebrate the abundant blessing of God.
