My Home Town 7.9.23
Jerry Beebe

I sure hope you all had a wonderful “4th of July” celebration.   Despite all our current challenges, the United States is a wonderful place to live.   I’m so thankful for our freedoms and our unique system of government that has served us well for almost 250 years.  I’m especially appreciative of all our Veterans, and First Responders who have done their best to keep us safe and free.   Kudos to those who have a servant’s heart for the good of our communities.

This weekend I’ll be traveling back to my hometown of Forks.  It’s a small town located on the Olympic Peninsula and known for logging, fishing, the ocean and beautiful rainforests. Of course all that beauty comes with a price of over 100 inches of rainfall each year.   Even though I’ve now lived in Wenatchee longer than Forks, I still have web-feet.   Rain was a part of life in our small town where everyone knew your name and rain never stopped a church picnic or a “4th of July” parade.   It was just part of living.   More recently you might recognize the name from the “Twilight Saga” based on the book by Stephenie Meyer.

The reason for my return is to hang out with some old people.   Seriously!   It’s hard to believe it’s been 50 years since my high school graduation.  Where have the years gone?   One of my best friends is a chef who will be providing the food and the big event will be held at another friends beautiful home along the Sol Duc River.   There will be people there I haven’t seen for decades.  Hope I can recognize them.   I’m also looking forward to being back at my home church, Forks Assembly of God, on Sunday.  So many fond memories of my childhood and youth and I’m so grateful for the spiritual formation brought through the teaching and examples of many.

God bless you!  I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, July 16th and sharing a message from Habakkuk 2 called, “Wait For It.”    The following Sunday, July 23, we will be welcoming some men from the Spokane Teen Challenge who will share their stories of transformation after placing their faith in Jesus.
