Ethiopia 2.12.23

I’m excited to have been invited to teach an undergraduate block class this year at Addis Bible College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.   I’ve never been to this part of Africa nor have I taught at a residential Bible College.  In my previous teaching assignments, the students were primarily bi-vocational and came at night to a specific location.   ABC (Addis Bible College) was established in 1994 and is operated by the Ethiopian Assemblies of God.  Their tag line is:  “People of the Spirit and People of the Book.”   They have dormitories and conduct daily chapel services.   I’ll be teaching a course on Daniel and Revelation.   We have several Northwest Strategic Partners in this city of about 5 million people which also serves at the Capitol of Ethiopia.  Among those there that we support are:  Shaya Lindseth, Doug & Tasha Meyers and Erik & Kayla Erickson.

I love these types of teaching assignments and am thankful for the support WFA has always afforded me in helping train pastors and church leaders in other countries.  As always, I go as an extension of Wenatchee First Assembly.  I’ve found throughout the years, that teaching on a collegiate level takes a lot of extra time in preparation.   A syllabus and reading list need created, quizzes and tests scheduled , a grading matrix and required assignments for book reports and final projects need developed.  That’s all in addition to the study required to teach the material and facilitate the actual class.   (I know school teachers can relate!)

To create more time in the months ahead, I’ve asked Pastor Darth to share the Sunday morning pulpit ministry here at WFA.  He has grown to be a great communicator and is fully capable of helping us grow in our understanding and application of God’s Word.  I know I glean much when he speaks.    As always, he has agreed, stating he’s just here to help in anyway possible and to follow the leading of the Lord.   I’ve always appreciated that Pastor Darth has never had an agenda but simply a heart to serve where needed.

So in the months ahead, to accommodate his ability to take on these new duties, you’ll also see a shift in the number of Sundays he leads worship.   We are so blessed to have multiple people in our congregation that have the talent and ability to lead worship for us.   Pastor Darth has done a great job in working with them and equipping them for this new season of time.    The Lord is good that way, isn’t He?   He’s always preparing us for where He is taking us! I’m thankful that the Lord has gathered the right people at the right time so that we can make these adjustments and keep in step with the Holy Spirit to what and where He is calling us in this season of time.
