Shofar 1.22.23
Jerry Beebe

The last couple of weeks have brought a new sense of liberty and expectation to our worship service.  I’m so glad that more people are engaging with the presence of the Lord, rather than just observing.   We’ve been praying and believe that God wants to “awaken” us.   In fact, that was our Week of Prayer theme.   I’m also pleased  that we have seemed to have a renewal of spiritual gifts in operation.

After last Sunday’s service I received a note from a longtime, very stable and mature sister, that she had a rather unusual experience during worship.  She states, “Close to the end of worship I heard something that stopped me in my tracks. It sounded like someone was blowing a shofar. I listened again and heard it two more times.”

Now a shofar is an ancient trumpet made from the horn of a ram or other kosher animal and was often used in Israel to announce a Biblical feast or to call people to repentance and spiritual cleansing.  In other words, to “awaken” them.   Research shows that three blasts on a shofar (as our sister heard) represents a cry for mercy or forgiveness.  Perhaps she heard in the Spirit, what was taking place as we were worshiping and crying out to the Lord.

There is much that we don’t understand about the supernatural path we are on.  Our faith is a mystery in many ways.  I won’t attempt to try to interpret the events of the past couple of weeks but I do believe that God is stirring us up and we need to be open to a fresh move of His Spirit in the days ahead.
