Love the Children 9.18.22
Jerry Beebe

Last week I shared one of the things that breaks my heart as a pastor.  This week I want to share something that warms my heart as a pastor and keeps me motivated.  It’s children!  I can’t tell you how many notes from kids I have in my file from the past three decades. Many of them are grown and now have kids of their own.   I still love the kids.   Every Sunday there’s a couple little boys that run across the lobby to grab my legs in an attempt to tackle me.  HA!   I have crayon drawn pictures hanging up in my office from girls who are expressing thanks for one thing or the other.

I can understand why Jesus said we needed to become like children to enter the Kingdom of God.  So innocent and pure.  No agendas and they don’t take up offenses easily.  Kids never complain, they are just so appreciative of all we do. Tender hearts without prejudice or worldly opinions.

A couple weeks ago, after introducing  the “Repair the Roof” fund-raising campaign, I came in on Monday morning to find 2 envelopes on my desk, with my name on the front of them, obviously written by children.   As I read them, tears literally filled my eyes.  Two girls, sharing their birthday money to get the roof fixed!  The comments  “l love our church” and “I like going to church and learning about God” was like healing medicine to my grieving heart from the adults who had left offended by God’s Word.

God is so good!  He knew exactly what I needed.   I pray these girls will always have such sensitive hearts and that the Lord will graciously bless them for their generosity.   With their parent’s permission, I share these letters with you today so you can also rejoice and be encouraged that our WFA children are growing and maturing in the Lord and that our financial needs to repair the roof will be met!
