Forgiveness 1.24.21
Jerry Beebe

We are instructed in Colossians 3 to make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends us   After all, the Lord forgave us ,so you must forgive others.”  (vs13)   That’s a hard task for most of us, especially in this culture where division and anger seem to be a badge of honor.  But the Bible is clear!   When people behave badly, we must forgive them even when we would rather not.

If you’re angry with anyone today, or if you’re upset by something you yourself have done, it’s now time to forgive!    It might not change the situation but it will set you free from the bondage of bitterness and resentment.  Don’t carry that weight into this coming year.   Wipe the slate clean and start the new year fresh!

If you’re like me, you want to be forgiven for the mistakes you make, so we must be willing to extend forgiveness to other people for the mistakes they’ve made.   God teaches us to treat other people exactly as we wish to be treated.

If you can’t seem to forgive someone, seek the help of the Holy Spirit.   Let’s ask to see the person through God’s eyes.   Let’s follow the Scripture to love, pray and bless your enemies.  It’s not easy, but it’s what Jesus wants!  In return, God will forgive us and we’ll walk in the newness of life.  .  As the Lord taught us to pray; “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”

Remember friends, the enemy can’t stop forgiveness from the throne to the sinner, but he can hinder forgiveness from one believer to the other.  Let’s not let him do that!    I’m praying this week that each of us will truly forgive as we have been forgiven.
